The Zero Waste HoReCa program is spearheaded by our Company, AKTI research Centre in collaboration with local environmental NGOs Zibel, Nature trust and funded by the Coca-Cola Foundation. This innovative program engages the local hospitality industry and provides guidance on how to reduce carbon emissions, water usage and waste through a practical three step approach of Calculate, Mitigate, Compensate. By adopting a holistic approach, this groundbreaking initiative has successfully minimized the industry’s impact on the environment while simultaneously maximizing efficiency and cost-saving practices by utilizing eco-friendly alternatives, implementing proper recycling systems, and adopt sustainable practices in their day-to-day operations.
Furthermore, the program has partnered with local NGO Zibel to recover and recycle marine plastics by placing bins around the coast of Malta. Another collaboration was with another local NGO nature trust which led sustainable practices in school and also workshops in sustainability amongst students participating in Ekoskola.
